Defense Photonics Group is using advanced fiber optic
and photonic-based technologies for addressing mission critical solutions
that enhance defense and security force capabilities needed to protect
against modern day threats. We offer products and subsystems for command,
communications and control applications within a broad range of avionic,
shipboard and ground-based equipment and systems.
Optical Harness: Electrical wiring harnesses are the
means for interconnecting all electrical subsystems on aircraft, ships,
UAVs, etc. Since the typical harness is made of copper wires, it has a
number of disadvantages relative to optical fiber: 1. Higher weight. 2.
Narrower bandwidth. 3. Susceptibility to EM interference. 4. Increased
loss. By replacing many signal-carrying copper wires with a single optical
fiber, the resulting DPG optical harness offers a lightweight, high-bandwidth,
robust and flexible alternative.
Video Distribution: Platforms carrying many data collection
and sensor systems that need to be analyzed in real-time on high-resolution
monitors, require a broadband network to distribute multiple video signals.
DPG offers an optical network solution that provides high-bandwidth connections
between multiple data collection units and multiple monitor units, leveraging
mature COTS optical communication equipment.
Fiber Optic Gyro (FOG): FOG’s are critical components
in navigation and guidance sub-systems, but are still too expensive for
many important military applications. Using highly integrated optical
circuits results in smaller and much more cost-effective devices. DPG
has unique expertise in optical integration and optical materials, including
an integrated ASE-based light source with performance superior to the
standard SLD.
RF over Optical Fiber: Applications requiring the transmission
of RF signals that are broadband or that require immunity to EMI, such
as base station remoting and public safety systems, can realize huge benefits
from transporting the RF signals over optical fiber. DPG is one of the
world leaders in RF-on-Fiber‘ technology with expertise in broadband
analog optical transmission (up to 20 GHz bandwidth). These transmission
systems are also low-loss, immune to EMI and very cost-effective.
